If they’d do it before the shutdown (i.e. come up with a “deal”), I would have been angry but not overly surprised.

Now? There’s no way I could seem them caving that would do anything but ensure that Donny won reelection next year. There is so much invested in seeing him forced to accept defeat that working a “deal” would be political suicide for all involved.

Not to mention that trump would forever hold the country hostage whenever he damn well feels like it.
