They do think they’re “better.” It’s the same reason that they look down their nose as persons like AOC: They think of themselves as the new aristocracy and nothing pisses off an aristocrat more than seeing those they view as “commoners” being elevated to their level. When someone like Paul Ryan took office, they accepted him not only for his skin and his gender, but also because he came from a business family. Lawyers and doctors are welcome because they are men and women who attained office through money and influence.

So when someone like AOC wins a seat to the royal court, it rankles them something fierce because she is not of “noble” birth, nor did she attain office through buying favor or attaining it through personal connections. She is one of the purest expressions of the belief that anyone can run and win elections to Congress…and they hate her for that because they think it’s an exclusive club that you have to pay to enter.
