Down farther in the letter is an interesting line:

What does that mean? That the pre-Vatican II anti-semitism has to be kept as the “root” of the Catholic church? This pope makes me a little nervous. When I was growing up, Vat II was put forward as a revising out of doctrine that caused damage to others or themselves… Now he is saying that they’re keeping all those “roots”?

I don’t the Pope was inferring that anti-semitism was among the “roots” that must be kept as part of historical Catholic doctrine.
