I know this is a war…I have wondered about this..Why Am I being a heretic about light speed? Let’s do a though experiment just like Einstein..
Everybody knows a black hole has so much gravity that light can’t escape…We know this right? So how fucking fast do you think light was moving when the whole universe’s mass was at one single point smaller than the eye can see? How fast was light traveling then? I believe as mass expanded the speed of light increased..I know I may be the stupidest person on earth..But I’m buying into the mass vs. Speed of light thing..

Well like I said, inflation is not well understood. I can buy that pretty much any woojy thing happened at a high enough energy density. However spectra of distant and hence ancient things would indicate that alpha and c have been fixed for as long as we can directly observe.

If you doubt this just look at the spectra of the hydrogen atom and consider how the bands would be different.

Come to think of it, I bet you could show the splitting of degenerate levels would be different via perturbation theory as well.

At the end of the day we see no such switch in spectra.
