He’d never make it in the US. Bad Teeth.. Can’t be put in the public eye with bad teeth.

It’s funny how much that matters in the US. I was watching a British comedy, Coupling, and in one of the episodes, a main character goes out for several dates with an extremely hot woman he meets on the train. She’s lovely, very groomed and made up, but with crooked teeth. Not awful, but natural, normal teeth. It occurred to me that she could never act for TV in the States with those, she’d absolutely have to get braces.

(He messes up the whole thing for himself because he lies to her on first meeting her and tells her he’s had one leg amputated. This becomes a problem when things progress to the point that she’s inviting him back to her apartment, with a clear intent of things getting physical. “She’s bound to count them sooner or later,” one of his friends points out.)
