One thing I can’t help but notice is that the shooting she escaped, which took place in Toronto, occurred in a crowded food court…yet the death toll was just two. Similar thing happened just a few days ago in another Toronto neighborhood - mass shooting at a street party, dozens injured, but again, death toll just two.

Why are the death tolls so much higher in these US shootings? How do these wackjobs manage to kill so many people so quickly, within seconds even? Deadlier guns/ammo?

If you think about it a theatre is almost a perfect shooting gallery if you break in via one of the fire doors at the bottom. As ascending ramp of seats - just random firing is going to hit someone. A food court or street party is a flatter environment where any aiming high is going to put the shot over the people.
