Same here - and I’ve often there’s a certain degree of bigotry, if not occasional outright racism - involved in that sort of woowoo.

When the French first came across Angkor Wat, they simply couldn’t believe that the people saw in the nearby rice paddies were the descendants of those long-ago architects.

Or all the ink 19th-20th-Century writers spilled speculating about who “actually” built Great Zimbabwe ; since obviously, building big structures in stone was so “beyond” mere Africans’ capabilities….
