My point is that government spending which increases employment (preferably on infrastructure type work) means that more people are working, persumably spending their paychecks [since they have been un or under employed] and that increase in consumer spending gets the economic engine running again. Most of the mainline economists, like Paul Samuelson, seem to go with that program. For certain, the Regan “down from the top” theory that justified the Bush tax cuts turned out not to work.
