I’m sure some people do understand the distinction, but I’d be willing to bet a lot of people haven’t thought it through. We all make many, many assumptions and use language as a shortcut to share our ideas with others. Sometimes the words mean different things to different people. That’s why there are so many jobs out there for lawyers.
I dunno. I just think too many have their conclusions made up. If anyone I know ever brings it up, I’m going to bring up the fact that I can’t refuse to serve right wing bigots simply because they’re right wing bigots at my hypothetical pub.
