The problem with chemistry to dispose of things is that chemical reactions are equations.

That is, if you add Nasty Shit A to Nasty Shit B to get rid of it, it doesn’t disappear, but rather turns into (potentially) Nasty Shit C (and possibly D). Dump a pile of garbage into a vat of toxic acid and you’ll end up with a vat of dirty, toxic acid, with some other nasty shit.

That’s why Magic would be so much better. *POOF!!* Gone!
