Me, too, “flat statements” are equivalent and offensive. But without “flat statements” we are left with implications, assertions, and assumptions. All of which are incessant from believers. You might say “It’s in the air.”
When someone tells me, in response to disagreeing with them over something they feel strongly about, ‘One day you’ll stand before God!’, I usually say, “Or not.”
