re: #21 makeitstop

I was away from my computer for most of the time when it was all transpiring. I had to Google her name to find out what the hell was up.

My first thought was ‘Jesus, what an idiot.’ My second thought is that people have to learn how to self-censor before they tweet anything.

She seemed very sincere in her apology. But you have to wonder - had she just taken a few seconds to actually read that tweet and considered what she was saying, would she have actually let it fly?

Social media allows for a small mis-step to go a very long way very quickly. And with it comes taking responsibility for what you say. Don’t want your opinions possibly publicized and generating effects? Don’t tweet them!

Per the effect on her employment that’s also part of the risk. You, as an employee or member of some group or organization are a de facto representative of that group. What you do or say reflects upon them, and thus they are often quite defensive about getting their reputation or business damaged by an unapproved comment or communication. It’s a part of employment or membership that a lot of people seem to not understand or take into account.
