Sad, but thanks for bringing this up.

The past slips away, often silently.

This, btw, is why professional genealogists always encourage people to interview the oldest relative. They will have information, usual not written down, about the family that, once they are gone, is totally gone.

I never met my maternal grandfather, my grandma was sent over from Croatia to Cleveland around 1912 to marry him, she had my mother and Aunt Helen with him and then ran off with a boarder in my house and had my Uncle Gabe. He was the fellow I knew as grandpa.
I was aware that my grandma had been divorced and that he was actually my step-grandfather but was unaware of the other circumstances until much later in lifeā€¦
