A slightly OT aside on Michael Long and his personal politics and worldview.

A few years back, his son, FDNY firefighter Matthew Long was nearly killed in a bike accident. The accident occurred because his son was biking to work during the transit strike called by TWU Local 100; Long blamed the union for his son’s injuries. I have no doubt that this seriously affects his views on unions and political views in general.

His dissatisfaction with the GOP these days is running so deep that he’s calling on conservatives to stop contributing to the NRCC. This too may be a personal catfight between top conservative/GOP leaders in NYS; and that’s spilling over into the national GOP schism developing between right wing and all others.
