Committee Chair Chuck Grassley (R-IA) confirmed the news late Tuesday. The prosecutor will take a leave of absence from Maricopa County for a few days to go onto the Senate payroll for this specific reason.

But in an article I read earlier today:

A Democratic staffer noted that there are rules on bringing in outside counsel. A person at a law firm would have to quit his or her job to do the questioning ― the individual could not take a leave of absence and could not do it pro bono.

Is there a difference between taking a leave of absence from a law firm and taking one from a prosecutor’s office? Anybody know?
