ML is great at searching in places we know where to search. It’s not anywhere mature enough to do the searching on its own.

My take, as an engineer but not directly involved in AI, is that far more work is required for training and developing adequate reasoning and perception then is initially thought. You end up needing several levels of deduction to make sense of real-world data, and the complexity blows up exponentially quite fast. I think it will be useful and widespread, but will take a lot longer than the pitch boys say it will.
