If there is any genre that lays bare the creative bankruptcy of the American music industry it has to be Christmas music.

Sure, musicians have to eat and Christmas music can pretty much be treated like a commodity; but just because something can be done doesn’t mean it should be.

Two things annoy me - (1) electronic glitz for no good reason but that some producer can do it so they go ahead and let a computer do its thing; and (2) people who can’t sing but want to pretend they can and normally hide that fact behind a curtain of electronic sound magic.

Anyway, here is Joan Baez, who fortunately for us sings well:
