That’s because the extremists of both sides didn’t pay attention in history class. Or because they’re deliberately dense in order to cloud whatever issue they’re arguing about.

I immediately lose all respect for people when they start pulling a Godwin and comparing current political leaders to Hitler, or any current issues to the Holocaust. It’s stupid and offensive and trivializes the very real evils that they’re using to try and make some sort of ham-handed point. I can’t stand that sort of intellectual laziness. It irks me.

Ditto on that. It’s almost beyond laziness and well into irrational psychotic behavior. If I had to word it for these people I would tell them this. If we ever have a Hitler or Mao in power, you’ll know.
