The Afghanis have to choose whether they want freedom and democracy or to return to a nation run by Taliban war lords. Unless there is a will to fight against the Taliban from within their borders and by their own people this war is lost. It’s up to them.

Not to be rude but that’s a little simplistic. Expecting a civilian population to rise up with pick axes against an aggresssive, well armed, and brutal opposition is asking a bit much. It’s a matter of survival, they’ll follow whoever holds the upper-hand and without the troops to hold an area we just keep contributing to a vicious cycle.
