VI is pretty bad. Ewoks fuck up a lot of stuff.

A) Ewoks are kind of evil, since they’re ready to do human sacrifice at a moment’s notice in some sort of religious fervoer.

B) Ewoks fuck up the narrative of the big bad Empire, because the Empire can’t even handle midget hamster-people with rocks and sticks. The scene where the Ewoks are lightly touching the Stormtroopers with branches over and over and it’s just beating them down is hilarious in a bad way.

And the plan to rescue Han was ridiculously convoluted and nearly failed. The heroes really weren’t very good at being heroes.

Agreed about the Ewoks. But there seems to have been a desire for “plucky natives beat tech-advanced invaders”. The problem with that in a movie is that such victories are normally asymmetric in nature, and thus too long in duration to put in as modest part of a movie. So Lucas decided to just jettison reality entirely.
