I’ve been thinking about the same thing the last couple of days—-guys who should be retired but still want to be in Congress. I don’t understand alleged Family Values politicians reaching their late seventies, early and mid-eighties and not wanting to spend any of their remaining time on earth with their families. I retired at 56, and I’m enjoying every day of it. I made a plan when I began teaching that I wasn’t going to be working at the age of 60 because I wanted to be healthy enough to enjoy a certain number of years not having to work and being able to do some of the things I want to do. I was never unemployed after leaving undergraduate school. I worked 35 straight years before retiring.
