Texas State GOP Rep. Sanford Says Pro-Choice Demonstrators Are Chanting "Hail Satan"

I watched the entire proceeding in Austin yesterday. I had friends there but they didn’t get to speak. A few notes:

The House State Affairs Committee mostly had the witnesses speak in rotation, one FOR the bill, then one AGAINST, even there were many more people signed up to speak AGAINST the bill. For the first few hours, the committee ‘accidentally’ let more people speak FOR the bill.

The Texas Hospital Association sent their representative to oppose the bill due to Section 2 of House Bill 2, which requires the physician to have admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles. There should be an ‘alternative agreement’ clause, but the bill does not have that. This part of the bill will probably result in an injunction in the courts.

There were many intelligent statements made by the Pro-Choice individuals. As for those supporting the bill, it was a mixture of religious fanatics, women crying with stories of regretting their abortion (and some claiming they were ‘forced’ to have an abortion), and some unstable and somewhat scary men. Lots of dumbasses.

Here’s a good chart of the current abortion laws in each state.

There are so many facts, but I’ll close with this one. Plastic Surgery kills 50 times more people than abortion (there were 12 deaths nationwide in 2008 from abortion, which was higher than most years.) Yet Texas does not require Plastic Surgery to be performed in an ambulatory surgical center, but this bill requires it for abortions. “We’re only making medicine safer for women.”

All of Lt. Gov Dewhurst’s tweets in recent weeks have been anti-abortion. You may have seen this one before, but it’s important, as it is his admittance that he wants to close clinics. The other Republicans continuously lie and say that this is not the objective.
