I find myself knowing I don’t know enough. The article says they were in a retirement home and the 93 year old wife was suffering from a terminal illness. It was severe enough that his statement to staff that his wife was dead was met with absolutely no surprise.

I’m pretty sure he did what he thought was best, but clearly the two of them needed more help than they got.
