This sounds to me like a combination of Putin demanding a big propaganda victory to shore up his support and some general(s) looking to boost support for the program if one of these white elephants manages to at least damage a Western tank.

Yup, it does sound like the Russian upper echelons are more excited than the ‘stuckees’ who are about to be issued it.
