More than four decades ago I had the privilege to do a couple ride-alongs with a cop (some outreach program to demonstrate to the hippies and me that cops are good people). Had a call about an alarm going off at a warehouse and cop “come along and stay behind me while I check this out.
It’s probably nothing.”. Had a high-speed chase after somebody doing 80 mph down city streets and the cop says “buckle up, this’ll be fun”. Had to bust a house party but asked me to stay in the car while people passing by saying “whoa, dude, what did you do?” Had a domestic disturbance call and the cop says “get down on the floor of the car. Don’t raise your head. Stay there till I come back. I’m serious.”
