XP Pro SP3, all up to date. McAfee AV and FW behind a router. Just this site does it. I suspect a politically-driven bottleneck.

I have Vista. Now that I think about it, when I loaded all the darned MS updates, it stopped. Hmmmm. I think it had something to do with the firewall our router. I also now am connected through a Juniper box, then to a Netgear router.

I am not sure if we have the same root cause, but you might check to see if you have all the updates.
