But that would indicate that the value of sand is much higher since it can be used in electronics, castings, and help generate power via solar cells, etc.

We don’t hear anyone calling for pegging the dollar to sand, so there’s something more intrinsic about gold. Either that, or Rand Paul is really Auric Goldfinger. After all, we’ve never seen them both in the same place at the same time. /
