Yes, and yes.

Fox played the episodes out of order, and never two weeks in a row, then killed it after only 9 eps aired. 13 were shot, and the DVD’s have them in the correct order. The next four years of story that Joss had vaguely outlined were then boiled down to two hours for the movie “Serenity”. So it’s not nearly as large a time commitment as Breaking Bad.

SO watch the the 9 episodes first, then Serenity?
