But therein lay an even stickier issue for the school teacher.

Imagine if a social studies teacher actually does tackle the issue, and explains that the modern discoveries about the ancient Jewish writings in Genesis are: that Genesis is an edited version of one ethnic group’s identity-story (much like Americans tell stories of George Washington), codified during a period of captivity by said group, who re-wrote even older myths from the neighboring groups of people, and that the stories ended up being syncretized beliefs from the Bronze age religions and the Iron age national narratives.

So little Johnny then goes home to his fundamentalist parents and says his teacher told him the Bible was just a collection of made up stories, copied from other nations’ stories.

What do you think those fundamentalist parents would do then?
