Evening all! It was wonderful to see the Moody Blues in concert, and ti read the discussion posts on the cameras.

Just got back from interring my mother’s ashes in a small town in upstate New York. While we were doing that, my cousin Lynne turned off her phone. Ten minutes later, she turned her phone back on, and immediately retrieved a message that her dad, my mother’s oldest brother, had just died. He left this world at precisely the same moment my mother’s ashes were placed in her final resting place.

What does that all mean? I don’t know, nor would I hazard a guess.

I simply reflect on the uselessness of a camera to capture anything other than life. I’m so glad we have it for that, but am reminded that it cannot ever capture anything but that - when we celebrate the passing of a beloved friend, brother, father - whomever - the sadness happens far too quickly for the shutter to open and close quickly enough to record true emotions as they play out in real time.

And that’s as it should be. Those moments should always be captured by the mind’s eye - and naught else.

Goodbye, Uncle Dick. My mind’s eye remembers you as you would wish to be remembered. And I promise it shall be that…forever.
