I think Jiro Horikoshi kinda disproves that whole ridiculous chain of thought.
He had some good ideas, but his later designs couldn’t get into production in sufficient numbers to make a difference. The loss of the plans and jigs for the A7M in late 1944 were an especially hard blow. By the time Horikoshi had reconstructed them, Japan’s aircraft industry mostly lay in ruins.
