Something else about imported wine. There are still a number of holdover laws from prohibition that prevent some wholesalers and importers from selling in certain markets. I worked for one retailer who got into importing wines himself to get around some of the rules, which really cut out the middle men and made for great wines and cheap prices. You can find great french and italian wines for cheap depending on where you look and the laws the liquor industry has to work with in your area. Good wine does not have to be expensive.

I live in WA state. We have some of the most draconian import laws. Our wine producers (many of world renown) don’t want out of state wines to have free-flow into the state.
