If Rolling Stone decides to fire Erdely for this, fine - it’s their decision to make. But I’m not going to call for her head, for making what appears to be a well-intentioned but ultimately disastrous mistake.

In any event it’s really her editors who should probably be fired. They’re the one’s paid to review & vet submissions, exercise judgement and restraint, make sure material to be published adheres to standard practices, and act in the institution’s best interests as its firewall against exactly this sort of sloppy journalism.
