I hate this. We were really lucky when I lost health care. I knew I had another job in a few months, but there was no way we could afford COBRA. We were fortunate that nothing happened while uninsured those several months. What happened to your mother is unforgivable. I joke a lot, but what is happening now makes me furious.

Also, I looked at catastrophic insurance policies, but if you look carefully (this was pre-ACA), they were pretty much useless, too.
