Consult with a lawyer first thing. And one who has SOME experience with politics; the average family lawyer canât do it.
That means gathering recommendations from trusted associates (that MIGHT mean your family lawyer if you have one; if you donât, add time. If your family lawyer doesnât know anybody, add time).
Contact and set up appointment with said lawyer. Check budget and see if you can afford said lawyer.
At the meeting, go over strategy, close off areas of possible problems or liability. Spend time crafting a statement that minimizes exposure.
Remember. This person is an amateur, almost certainly not experienced in publicity. All these steps are sensible and takes time to execute.
