Another option is to send your stuff back to the States instead of lugging it back with you. There is a service called the Luggage Club that can arrange shipping. I looked into it, but their fees are too high. Using the local postal service or even UPS/FedEx/DHL would probably be cheaper.
UPS is ungodly expensive. I went to ship back a kitchen grill pan I bought (from Las Vegas to MI) and they wanted like $70. For a small package that weighed less than 10 pounds.
