The pad probably did stop the final energy, but the physics involved is way more complicated than gun-bullet-tablet. How fast was the bullet, and at what angle, and did it travel through anything else, and was it shaped to penetrate? So yes, in this one case it could have stopped it, but you should not rely on a tablet to protect you.
