re: #372 First As Tragedy, Then As Farce
Cleanse your cinematic palate with any or all of the following:
Moon
Children of Men
the film adaptation of “1984” starring John Hurt
Gattaca
Videodrome (possibly my all-time favorite movie)
Existenz
The Road
Oh, I’ve done that. I read “The Road” which I thought better than the movie, of course. One glaring thing in “The Road” which I didn’t think ring true was the boy calling his father “Papa”. What kid uses that term these days? Otherwise, even though it was a pretty bleak film, it was worthwhile. Can’t say “enjoyable” because how do you enjoy misery? I admit, though, I rather like the dystopic movies like “Children of Men” which I see as more realistic, more than “sterile future” ones like “Gattaca”. Life’s messy; we’ll never be able to “clean up” like science fictions tends to portray us.
