re: #360 SanFranciscoZionist
Hardly the original.
Look, folks, I keep seeing this here, and there’s a couple things I want to point out:
1. Mohammed’s other wives, AFAIK, were grown-ups. Khadija was his senior by quite a bit.
2. We’re talking about a community (early medieval Arabia) in which I’m pretty sure marriages of very young girls for political reasons were not uncommon.
3. Aisha, who grew up to become a religious leader in her own right, deserves better than to be a nameless figure in a regular crack on Muhammed.
The ick factor is quite real, here, but guys, IT WAS THE SEVENTH CENTURY. Mohammed wasn’t a pedophile, he was a man of a very distant and very foreign time and place.
My two cents. Feel free to ignore them.
Having sex with a child is the same whether it occurred in some far away place in time or not. This is the type of thing I hear every day, an attempt to justify something so vile that there really is no sound justification ……just moral and cultural relativism.
