Correct spelling shows consideration for the readers but it isn’t necessary for understanding. Purposeful misspelling can add a bit of humour.

Correct spelling can be critical for understanding. I once got an ion pump in for rebuilding, and took it apart to determine the condition of the cathodes. The sales person (a former school teacher, no less) wrote up the order for “Arsonic cleaning.” I thought they were pumping Argon and wanted sonic cleaning, which was one of our services. Turns out they wanted “arsenic cleaning.” Of course, I found this out after I took the thing apart with my bare hands.

Other than that one experience, I’d have to say I agree with you, though.
