When we lived in Texas, we had some friends who had to move away because they discovered that she was allergic to fire ants. Two bites put her in the hospital.

She never got to three. They moved.

My wife is like that. She stepped into a mound while getting into the car recently and had to cancel a trip - I was taking her to the airport. She was very much in trouble for several days, 10-12 bites. I think there is probably a solution for this infestation in the States, but no one will ever take the steps to do it. Think Silent Spring.
