oh wow— I hadn’t heard about that at all. Reading now. Yeah, the West Memphis 3 looks like a serious miscarriage of justice and another example of moral panic (and satanic panic) from what I’ve read on it, but I’m not an expert on it or up to speed on the status of the current legal situation on it. thanks

The Dale Akiki case was such a farce that everyone involved with charging and prosecuting him should have been up on charges themselves. It was a fucking travesty. It happened when I was in college (the first time) back then I remember debating in one of my classes that I thought he was being made a scapegoat because he looked strange and people were finding bogus “satanic cults” around every corner. Turned out I was right.

This right here should have been a red flag for a judge to throw it out of court:

The cases against him included no physical evidence, but allegations of satanic ritual abuse including testimony that he killed a giraffe and an elephant in front of the children, drank human blood in satanic rituals, and had abducted the children away from the church despite being unable to drive.

Where the fuck in San Diego, CA is someone going to get a giraffe and an elephant? I’m sure the zoo or the Wild Animal Park would have noticed them missing.
