Yes, you’re totally making sense, and of course, a lot of Carter’s attitude about Israel does come from that source—as does a lot of anti-Israel sentiment carefully nurtured by the international Left.

It’s just a massive gripe of mine, nurtured by being an Israel activist who went to college in the identity politics heydey of the early 90s.

I appreciate it. Anti-Israeli types tend to be exceptionally good at twisting language to mean whatever they want it to, so I always try to be careful that my message of support doesn’t get twisted into something I don’t mean. I was accused of being pro-Hamas by the stalker blog early on and it was a slightly jarring experience.
