Could be, and I don’t know the man’s mind except by impressions, but it does seem clear that he is building a following of the wrong sort, and not discouraging it.

That does make protestations against being misunderstood suspect.

In any case, he is on trial for his speech about Islam and might be sent to jail. If nothing else, he should be supported, due to the ramifications of what could happen should he be convicted. You do not want to set a bad precedant.
