re: #366 LudwigVanQuixote

Please let’s not make this into a pointless debate. I am sorry I called you a dumbass. I honestly thought that you were being more than a little insensitive to Jewish folks with your comment, but I realized that you just didn’t get the context at all. I get that you still don’t get it, but there is no need to make this a pedantic debate. It is true, absolutely true, that in many parts of the world where there are still tribal cultures, people use the word tribe to describe themselves.

In America though, I only know of Jews and Native Americans who do so frequently.

Hindu, Dari, Pashtun, Cajun, Creole, Basque, Irish, Celtic, Jamaican, Mayan, Aztec, Dravidian, Iberian, Scot, Breton, Angle, Cornish, Okinawan, Japanese, Ainu, etc. etc. etc. — I can point you to US websites where people take pride in their membership in said tribes, and participate in groups for same, in most metro areas you will find bars that cater to those specific peoples. Just because some tribes roughly align with “nationality” it doesn’t make them less of a tribe. Jews don’t own special claim to the word tribe in the US, the notion is somewhat hubristic L. indeed - it smacks of you establishing your personal identity by your tribe, which is a minor version of what Pat is doing.
