Hmmm.
Nobody questions the laws that make it illegal to point, let alone fire a gun at a person. But then for better or worse those are state laws. A fast google search got nothing on that kind of gun law apart from pointing a gun at a Federal worker.

I can see the validity of the argument for the laser law being federal, as those planes cross all kinds of airspace, so are governed by the Feds. Regulations, safety etc. I’m pretty sure it’s illegal to point a gun at an airliner, but just impossible to enforce. Who would ever know?

It would get complicated if we went down Paul’s path when we’re dealing with state boundaries at close proximity to airports. According to the FAA there has been 2,836 incidents reported between 2009 and 2010. This new law falls under FAA regulations and is part of FAA appropriations. This impacts not only airliners but general aviation, helicopters, etc. Makes sense that it falls under FAA rules.
