Here’s the problem the Republicans have wrt young people and messaging. Obama can go on Saturday Night Live or whatever and poke fun at himself while encouraging viewers to sign up for health insurance, because fundamentally people understand that the policy makes sense for them.

The Republican message essentially relies on people not being smart and just going along with soundbites. OBAMA CAN JUST LET ALL THE IMMIGRANTS IN NOW RUN AROUND SCREAMING. Etc.

So you can’t have Boehner or whoever crack wise with some hip-ish young comedian, because after one or two exchanges the sham becomes super-obvious. Instead they have to post gifs of actresses saying “whut?” and hope that no-one thinks too deeply about anything.
