To paraphrase one of America’s worst-ever secretaries of defense, you go into an election with the electorate you have, not the electorate you wish you had :(

45% of Americans are so utterly brainwashed they’ll vote for a literal pile of shit if it has a (R) next to its name. So the only options the Dems have are:

a) use their fundraising dollars to mount a massive effort to get voter IDs to disenfranchised groups

b) come up with messaging to motivate the members of their base who are just plain feckless and lazy

c) create a message that appeals to the shallow, gullible, fickle, “undecided” crank voters who make up the margins in the closest swing states.

Trust me, I HATE that it’s come to this and it sucks not only for America but humanity as whole…but one has to start somewhere.

Well, at least you can acknowledge that the idiots who didn’t vote because “OBAMA DIDN’T GIVE ME THE PONY I ASKED FOR” are idiots, so I guess that’s progress.

Maybe since you’re not on the ground here and aren’t seeing how fired up people are in general, it’s easier to give into despair. There’s a level of civic engagement going on that I have never seen and it’s not in Trump’s favor. I’m not giving up. (Which is, btw, how the “Obama’s ultimate legacy will be letting the US slip away to fascism” bullshit comes across.)
