Ever had a Guinness or some other dark beer? Then you mostly know what it tastes like. Vegemite is made from the brewer’s yeast extract that is a byproduct of making beer. You have to spread it VERY thinly on bread, otherwise the taste can be overwhelming.

A friend of mine from Sydney taught me her way of eating it. Spread a super thin layer on two slices of toast, add some apple slices, then top it with cheese, then pop it in the microwave just long enough for the cheese to melt. I like it. It’s pretty good.

I consider both Vegemite and Marmite to be foul.
