Nobody’s ever tossed my resume for having a black-sounding name.

I have a gender-neutral name. I once had a job interview (this was in the early ‘90’s) in a room full of men. As I entered the conference room, one of the interviewers blurted out “We were expecting a man!”

I did not get that job, but what a weird experience that was. I think they actually expected me to apologize for “tricking” them or something.
